Returning as a glider
After two days and six hours Columbia entered the atmosphere and headed for the runway at Edwards.
The shuttle had no engine for a go-around. Young had to use the single landing opportunity precisely.
Columbia touched down on Runway 23, bringing the first orbital test to a successful close.
