GEMINI 5 · CHAPTER 2 OF 4 · 21.–22. srpna 1965
The rendezvous pod and a warning light
Gemini 5 released a rendezvous evaluation pod, a small instrument package that simulated the radar and navigation problem of approaching another spacecraft.
The pod was not a target vehicle for docking. It carried a transponder, flashing beacons, batteries and an antenna so the crew could practise tracking and closing on a cooperative object.
A drop in oxygen-tank pressure threatened the fuel-cell power supply. Mission Control ordered the crew to switch off non-essential equipment, and the rendezvous exercise was ended while engineers stabilised the system.
